I recently had the pleasure of shooting modeling composites for a young lady who has just signed on with BMG Modeling Agency. Courtney is tall, thin, beautiful...and beyond sweet! She came with her good friend Ali - who was a huge help during the shoot as well! I would have to say that modeling images and senior portraits are my favorite type of shoots. There is so much energy and excitement and allowance for creativity. During this shoot I focused on getting three different looks. The first being soft and innocent, the second being a little more edgy and free and lastly I experimented with off camera lighting for a totally different look all together. We all had a great time, but decided to call it quits after being bit half a dozen time by gigantic mosquitos. Well...here are the results - I hope you like them as much as I do!

Here are some of my favorite holiday images I took of little Ms. A this year. She was such a ham in front of the camera. She insisted on posing with this one leaf - so of course I let her have her moment every 5 shots or so. What can I say? A few weeks back a had the pleasure of working with a local model, Melissa, who was in need of updating her portfolio and head shots. We began the day in the studio and then headed out on location. Although Orlando holds a plethora of great locations, Meliessa was partial to open fields and blue skies and so we stayed right in my backyard in Oviedo. Melissa noted that it had been a while since she had modeled, but it sure did not take her long to warm up. And let me tell you, once we were outside she was in her element. We had a great day working together...enjoy checking out the results ; )

CeFlo Retreat

In January of 2010 one of my closest friends, Ms. Sarah Bray decided she wanted to create some sort of retreat solely for female photographers in Orlando to promote both personal and professional growth - out of this desire the CeFloFePhos was born. The acronym stands for Central Florida Female Photographers and it grew from the original 8 of us in January 2010 to an astounding 190 members across the state of Florida. This is no longer an Orlando thing...or heck even a Central Florida thing...lol. Twice a year we host a retreat - usually lasting 3-4 days and consisting of food, fun, and of course photography. We have gone to St. Augustine, Siesta Key, Savannah, and Lake Wales.

This most recent retreat was hosted at the Westgate Ranch in Lake Wales, FL. There were 7 of us who attended for the weekend and one more that met us up for the shoot out. It was a fabulous time. We stayed up way too late talking...and honestly I think we all would have stayed up later if we could have. We discussed highlights of our year, struggles we were having both personally and within our business, brainstormed ideas - and in simple terms, we bonded. In the morning we all got primped up and headed outdoors to do a mini shoot out of each other as both a warm up and a way to get new head shots. It is not often that we find ourselves in front of the camera so I think it is helpful to be reminded of what it is like in front of the lens.

In the afternoon, our beautiful model Sarita met up with us and we headed out to shoot. 8 photographers and one model can certainly be overwhelming, but we had a great time. Sarita was a pro and new how to handle the onslaught of cameras. We each had turns posing and shooting which allowed us all to get slightly different looks/perspectives. The feel of the shoot was glamour, beauty, and fashion - and Sarita rocked it!

We even met up with Zach, one of the employees of Westgate Ranch who willingly acting as a second model for a bit and even let us use a horse in our photographs. It was fantastic. In fact, all the employees at Westgate Ranch were helpful, accommodating, and friendly. I will probably look at going back for a family vacation as the kiddos get a little older.

I feel so lucky to have been part of the creation of this group and have made it a point to attend every retreat and function. My husband has been more than supportive in helping me achieve this as well - volunteering to watch the kiddos while I'm gone. In fact, for our first retreat in St. Augustine he ended up coming with us because Mr. B was only 3 months old at the time!

Mini Sessions in November - Limited Space!

What is a mini-session you ask? Basically, it's just that - a miniature photography session. Instead of a full hour session, we use 20 minutes to take images of you and/or your loved ones in order to create a mini gallery (8-10 images) for you to chose from. It is quick, easy, and hopefully painless. Within 2 weeks you will have your gallery up online to view for the week and you will be able to chose 3 digital images to download as well as a set of custom designed holiday greeting cards. Plus you get 10% off any additional prints, products, or images, which make great holiday gifts!

Ms. Naomi :: Senior Portrait Photographer :: Oviedo, Central Florida

Ms. Naomi and I faced a lot of challenges during the weekend of her photo shoot. It was booked for the weekend before she left for college and within minutes of getting to our shoot destination it began pouring - and I am not talking about a light shower - I mean POURING. I jumped in her car and we worked out a plan b, c and d - we were determined to make it work. We decided to head to an alternate location that had some covered areas and we started off the shoot in the rain. We got super lucky and the rain stopped - at least temporarily.

We then went back to our first location and shot for a bit until we got poured on again! After huddling under my reflectors for a bit til the rain subsided yet again we decided to go to our final location where Naomi was awesomely adventurous and got in the lake for some sunset images in the water. Overall, we had a great day - but we still wanted to get at least one more look so we decided to meet the following day for a follow up session. The weather was perfect! And Ms. Naomi nailed the session...again! Here are the results...

Can I just say that I love SENIORS!!! High school senior photography is probably one of the types of photography I love the most. Perhaps it is because it reminds me of when I was that age and world full of possibilities that lie before me - or simply because seniors tend to chose to be photographed and so they are typically just as excited about the photo shoot as I am.

Well Ms. Kailee didn't disappoint...she completely rocked the session! Kailee just began her senior year at Hagerty High School, is involved in their theater program and definitely knows how to work the camera. Both she and her mom were up for hitting a few new spots that I've been hoping to shoot at and I definitely think our adventures were a success. Enjoy!

Did I say Baby M was the hardest shoot to date, well these twin girlies trump that! LOL. Adorable as anything, but two little ones with reflux makes for a very challenging shoot. The moment we would get one baby to sleep the other twin would wake up. Unfortunately due to unforseen occurances, we were not able to schedule the newborn shoot within the first 12 days of their birth, which is VERY important for a successful newborn shoot, so we just did the best we could. That said, we were able to capture some really sweet moments of the twins despite their protests. Tomorrow I will post the family pictures from this shoot!

In July I recieved an inquiry from an old high school friend of mine who had just had her second child. I was excited that she wanted me to take her family and newborn photos. It was such a nice opportunity to catch up on old times and to see her new and growing family. Her children are not too far from my children's ages so we certainely had a lot of similar stories to tell. And did I mention they are adorable! I also enjoyed getting some kid time in with her little boy before spending solo time with Ms. S. Here are some of the results from our shoot.

So, to be quite honest, this session was definitely one of the more difficult ones to date and makes the statement "you get out of it what you put in" very true. I laugh at the fact that I have one of the few jobs in life where you get peed and pooped on and still love every moment of what you are doing. Well, Ms. M proved that. Being just a week old, she still was getting used to her surroundings and was not having the whole "mom hired a professional photographer to take pictures of me" thing. Sure, we could have given up or rescheduled but mom and I were patient and in it for the long haul. Several hours into the session (and several fun convestations later), baby M finally fell asleep and the magic began. Despite the trials and tribulations of this shoot - I think it is one of my favorites I've ever done!

Baby C :: Orlando Newborn Photographer

So I will say that baby C was a true anomaly. It is pretty standard that newborn portrait sessions are booked for the first 12 days of the babies life. This is really important because within this window the baby tends to sleep longer and harder and is generally easier to pose. Baby C was already over a month old when her mother scheduled her first photography session so we knew going into it we wouldn't necessarily get the typically posed shots. But baby C had a different idea and decided to play along the best she could cuddling up into different poses and remaining asleep for a good amount of the time. So although it is important to know that this is atypical, IF for whatever reason you cannot or could not schedule your newborn session for the time right after birth, just know it is still possible to get beautiful images of your new baby.

Baby E was probably one of the easiest babies to work with. She was so tiny and petite and she slept almost the entire photo shoot without too much work on our end! That almost never happens : ) She snuggled up in various poses and when she finally did awaken she hammed it up for the camera. She even gave her own version of a nanny-nanny-boo-boo face - and she's only a week old! It was such a pleasure spending the morning with her mom and dad and capturing these precious newborn photos.

Lupus Now!

If you've been keeping up with my posts then you know that I have been campaigning for the Lupus Now Walk in support of my sister. Well, last weekend was the walk and it was a SUCCESS! Our group name was the Luprechauns and together we totaled 30 people. This included family, friends, children, and even 1 dog! My sister's sister in law even came and she is 32 weeks pregnant with twins (her husband pushed her in a wheelchair)! The grand total that we raised was $2,843!!! So, thank you everyone for all the support. Here are some images from the big day. I hope you enjoy!

Splash Pad!

Today I got together with 2 of my closest friends Sarah Bray and Jessica Friend and their kiddos and went to the splash pad in Winter Park. It was a beautiful day and the company was awesome! It was just what I needed. We chatted, arranged our kids marriages to one another, discussed photography, and the kids played for hours before we finally called it quits. I originally wasn't going to bring my camera because I was worried about the water, but I figured with my new zoom I could stay far enough away and still get some shots - I am so glad I made the decision to take it. Just looking at the pics reminds me of how great of a day we have. I just love these kids! Here is a litte snapshot of our day....

When my sister was 12 she was diagnosed with Lupus, a systemic autoimmune disease. To explain what Lupus is in simpler terms, it is when the immune system mistakes healthy cells and tissues for unhealthy ones and attacks, causing inflammation and damage. Lupus unfortunately can be fatal (although with modern medicine the number of fatalities is decreasing) and it currently has no cure.

I was 14 at the time of my sister's diagnosis and was very unfamiliar with the condition. I knew it meant a lot of doctor's appointments and overly worried parents. The disease has been tough on her in more than one way. She has had to deal with overprotective parents, life threatening flare ups, and more what ifs than I have ever known, but I am glad to say that today she is doing well and that the disease is almost unnoticeable in her blood stream.

Last month my sister had the opportunity to go the Washington DC with her husband and our mom to attend the Lupus Advocacy Day. My sister has always been an advocate for the disease, but this experience really moved and motivated her. Since her return from DC she has come out publicly about her disease and even began a blog called Lupus Groupus where she discusses the in and outs of lupus and her own personal journey (please check this out and follow her on her journey). She also signed up for a walk to benefit the Lupus Foundation of America called Walk for Lupus Now. Our team is called the Luprechauns.

. Although 15 years ago, at the time my sister was diagnosed, I had never heard of Lupus I am sad to say that now I know several people who suffer from the disease (including close friends and family). As I said previously there is currently no cure for Lupus, but we hope to change that by raising interest in the cause as well as raising money.

Although I typically do not feel comfortable asking for things from other people, I am adamant about this cause. So my call to action would be for you to at least consider a small donation towards our Walk for Lupus Now group. I know we are in hard economic times right now, but even one single dollar will make a difference and show your support. If I was able to raise $1 from every single one of my Facebook friends, I would exceed my current goal for the race. So if you read this and think I can't afford to donate right now, but a dollar is too cheap, think again. It really can make all the difference.

And...if you want to make a larger donation and get something in return. For anyone who is interested in booking a portrait session with me, I am going to be donating all session fees for anyone who purchases a session in the month of April to the Lupus Foundation of America. To further clarify, the session does not have to take place in the month of April, it just has to be booked and paid for at that time. If you would like to participate in this, but can't commit to a booking, I will be donating 50% of all gift certificates purchased in April as well. Happily Ever After: Wedding Photographer; Tampa, Central Florida

I recently had the opportunity to photograph Matt and Kate on their special day. The couple is very laid back and not too big on tradition. In fact, when we asked Kate about doing their first look, she laughed and said they rode over to the site together. Their casual attitudes and fun loving spirit were contagious and kept us smiling all day. Let the Countdown Begin: Engagement Session, Orlando, Central Florida

It is amazing to think that in only 5 short days this beautiful couple will be celebrating their wedding vows! Virgina and Stephen live in Jacksonville, but we were able to do a mini engagement session a few weeks ago when they were in town visiting friends. I am so glad I got the opportunity to meet the two of them! They are so sweet - and certainly in love. It was funny to hear the two of them telling their different versions of how they met and fell in love and learning about all the fun details of the upcoming wedding! I am so stoked to be a part of their big day and can't wait to see how stunning they both will look : )

A workshop kind of week!

Education is imperative and in the ever changing world of photography, there is always something new to learn. This past week I was lucky enough to attend not only one, but two workshops! The first workshop was a 2 day event for Images for a Cure (IFAC)- a wonderful nonprofit organization created by Kristen Weaver aimed at bringing photographers together to raise money for breast cancer. The second was a workshop the Power of Passion with Sandy Puc & Jerry Ghionis (a wedding workshop). Both were amazing I feel like I'm bursting with new knowledge and inspiration. It is an honor to be able to learn from some of the best photographers out there.

During the second day of the IFAC workshop we divided up into groups and all chose different speakers from the previous day to shoot with. I chose Joey Wright, a local photographer here in Orlando, who is known for his edgy work in commercial fashion and beauty. Joey is recognized by Westcott Lightingn as one their 2010 Top Pros, so it was fitting that he was teaching about off cameral lighting. This is an area that I am not as familiar with because I typically shoot in natural light, so I figured it would be a good learning curve for me. We learned about various off camera lighting options as well as how to manipulate natural light to your advantage. I definitely walked away with new ideas for future shoots. I will try to get some of the behind the scenes images up soon, but for now here are my final images. The first set with the stone brick wall was off camera lighting and the others were natural light. Hope you enjoy!

I have to say, one of my favorite newborn/baby shoots is the baby with mom or dad in the black shirt on the black background, so all you can see is the arms and hands. I LOVE this! It's just so simple and your eyes are drawn to the beautiful baby, but you also get the touch of strength and security of the parent holding the baby. I didn't take any of these with Brodie (kicking myself...ugh) - but I was not going to miss my opportunity with Miss E. After bugging the hubby time and time again he finally gave in and let me shoot some pictures with him as the prop. Here are the results:

New gear: : Photographer, Orlando, Florida

I have been saving my pennies this year to be able to afford some new gear. One of the items on my list was a new lens. I finally decided on the lens I was going to get and pulled the trigger last week. The lens I purchased is an 85 mm. It got amazing reviews and I think it is going to make a drastic difference in what I can produce with my portraits. I got the lens in yesterday, but it was too cold to take the kids out to play with it, so I had to wait til it warmed up today. We didn't do anything too exciting...just hung out on the back porch playing, but it allowed me to snap some shots. I can say already that I LOVE THIS LENS! I cannot wait to use it on my next shoot! Here are some of the images from today straight out of the camera.

Timeless Wedding: Wedding portrait session, Orlando, Florida

I recently got the privilege of collaborating with two other amazing local photographers (who happen to be good friends of mine), Sarah Bray and Jessica Friend, to create a stunning sunset wedding shoot. The idea came about when we got together to shoot my maternity photos back in October. We had found this amazing field and the light was simply gorgeous. We kept saying how neat it would be to shoot a wedding there...and before we knew it we were busy planning away a styled wedding shoot.

We hit many roadblocks along the way, including...

1) Not having eggs to bake the cake and using southwest flavored eggbeaters instead...yum...lol...and then totally forgetting the cakes the day of the shoot

2) Difficulty finding models who would agree to a call time of 6 am

3) Having our female model's mom calling at 5 am the day of the shoot to let us know her daughter was sick and wouldn't be modeling

4) Scrambling to find a last minute model....and convincing another awesome local photographer, Carly Burfield, who was going to come help out that morning to be our model : )

5) Shooting first thing in the morning during the first real cold front of the season

Despite all the setbacks, the shoot was awesome and we had such a blast. The original premise of the shoot was a surprise sunrise wedding meets steam punk meets the Time Traveler's Wife. Sarah's mom helped create the table settings which came out stunning and exceeded our expectations. The models were troopers and kept us giggling the whole time - especially when Carly's dress ripped as she and the groom went running through the field. All in all it was just a fantastic day and I feel so blessed to have such amazing and talented friends that I can share in my passion for photography with.

Holiday photo shoot: Family portrait session, Orlando, Florida

I was lucky enough to work with this awesome family for a holiday photo shoot. There was so much positive energy throughout the shoot and you could really tell how much everyone loved each other (especially by how they teased one another). I also enjoyed how much spunk the kids had - it really felt like they were able to be themselves and just have fun! In addition to the wonderful company, the weather was gorgeous too. It is days like this where I just have to stop and reflect on how lucky I am that I am able to do what I love most. Hope you enjoy the the results!

This past year I have been working on rebranding myself. New logo, new name, new website, and new blog. I am ALMOST done and can't wait to launch it. Just a few more tweeks and finishing touches. I am hoping to be able to spend a good amount of time on completing it this week as I am taking maternity leave early, but how much time I have to spend on it really depends on when the baby comes : ) I am going to change the heading on this blog to the new logo. I recently had the honor of shooting my little sister's engagement photos. We hit a lot of stumbles across the way including an impending storm with gray skies and rain and a broken camera (my brand new 5d!), but we overcame the obstacles and got some great shots. Horsing Around: Family portrait session, Orlando, Florida

A few weekends back I had the pleasure to work with an amazing family at their home. The main objectives of the shoot included snapping some family shots, but also focusing on the girls and their horses. It was really neat to witness the special bond the family has with these beautiful animals. I really enjoyed the day shooting them and couldn't ask for a nicer family to work with. And a special thanks to the family for being so patient with me in getting their sneak peak and proofs ready as we recently moved homes and are just now starting to feel settled. I hope you enjoy! Working with Breeyonna was such a delight. She is young and vibrant and need I even mention gorgeous. We spent the full day together shooting and did both a bridal shoot and a boudoir shoot (sneak peaks to come). She really does make a stunning bride! Mr. Mason

Mason is about 18 months old and too adorable for words. With his big blue eyes and dirty blonde hair he makes me wonder what my own little boy will look like when he is that age. Although at first he seemed shy and attached to his mom, Mason came out of his shell as the shoot progressed. If you wanted a smile all you had to do was ask him to do his happy dance and his face lit up as he started grooving. For most of the day we tried to get Mason to sit still long enough to get a picture in the brown leather chair and finally with book in hand Mason sat down for a quick read - I should have suspected that this may work being that his dad is the leader of two book clubs at work! Here are some of my personal favorites from the shoot.

Princess Jasmine

Jasmine has to be one of the cutest little 3 year old girls I have ever met! She has the biggest brown eyes and personality til next week! Jasmine has just started doing pagents and wants to get into modeling - she told me she wants to be on television and magazines ; ) She was such a trooper for the shoot! We had 8 wardrobe changes(!!!!) and she didn't even complain! She loved dressing up and as long as we played a quick game of red light green light in between shooting she was happy. This past Sunday I had the pleasure of working with Lauryn on some shots for her portfolio. Lauryn spent some time modeling as a kid and has decided to try to get back in the field. She was such a pleasure to work with. Young, vibrant, and full of energy. One of the outfits she brought for her wardrobe was a dress from that her grandmother wore to her mom's wedding. It was perfect for the setting! I couldn't have picked a better outfit myself. Overall, we had a great time shooting and I hope to work with her again in the future. Here are some of my favorites.

For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be a photographer, but the message I continually received growing up was that I couldn’t. And after hearing I couldn’t for so long I feel like I started to believe it. But that never kept me from dreaming about it. I would spend countless hours looking at other photographer’s sites wondering, what they have that I don’t. And why was it that all these people could follow their dreams, but I couldn't?

Growing up, my parents have always been supportive of me, but have also had a large influence in my career path. Although they would encourage my photography as a hobby (they even allowed me to paint my bedroom walls black to create my own “studio”) I continually received the message that it was not a viable career choice. Concerned that I would not be able to support myself with an art career, my parents guided me in the direction of a “safer” field. After completing my undergraduate degree I still felt lost and unsatisfied with my prospective career path, so I decided to start looking at graduate schools. My first thought was to go back to school for photography, but that idea was quickly shot down by my dad, who was at the time financially supporting my academic endeavors. So I started thinking about some of my other passions, aside from photography, and decided a career in mental health counseling would be a good fit. It would allow me to work with individuals that were in need and help motivate them towards change. After three years of graduate school I received my Masters in Mental Health Counseling and am now currently working full time in the field.

I spend my days working with individuals who are struggling with such issues as bipolar disorder, grief and loss, eating disorders, identity development, and depression. My goal is to create a safe environment where we are able to work together to increase awareness about the presenting concern, recognize potential and work towards positive change. Ironically enough, this often includes encouraging them to follow their dreams.

Although I sometimes wonder what my life would be like now if I had gone directly to school for photography, I don’t regret the path that I have taken because I am still fighting for my dream and have gained so much from my journey. My degree in counseling has taught me how to better relate with my clients as well as how to build stronger more genuine relationships. And despite being told that I couldn’t, I never quite gave up. I have continued to study photography on my own time taking classes, reading every book I can get my hands on, and visiting various blogs and websites of other professionals in the field.

To be chosen for this contest would be such an honor and provide me an amazing opportunity that I would otherwise not be able to have at this time to learn from a talented and inspiring professional whose work I greatly admire. I feel that it could be the catapult I need to launch me into the next level of my career.

Although it sometimes feels like an uphill battle I continue to work because I know in the end it will all be worth it. I hope that not only my work as a counselor, but also my actions in following my own dreams will help further inspire those around me to follow theirs too no matter how difficult it may seem.

I just can't believe how fast my little man is growing up. It feels like just yesterday I was shooting his newborn photos and now he is approaching 6 months. Before I know it he will be walking and talking. I am so glad to be able to document his life in photos though. I can't wait to get these images printed and framed! I am also thinking of doing a canvas for the 4-square images.

I had the pleasure of photographing this adorable blue eyed beauty just a few days ago. She was too cute! She is all girl and has a total take charge attitude...wanting to do what she wants, when she wants which allowed us to get some great shots of her making her way through the town. It feels like yesterday I was taking Little John's newborn photos and now he is about to turn 1! Where does time go! John spent the morning checking out everything in the park and inspecting all the leaves in the grass. He was completely inquisitive. And what a cutie with those dazzling blue eyes. Well I am back from the CeFloFePho (Central Florida Female Photographers) Retreat in St. Augustine and it was AMAZING! Despite the freezing temperatures we had an awesome time getting to know each other, sharing tips, and shooting around town. This week I am going to post new pictures every day from the retreat. This summer I agreed to offer my services for a blog contest on my sister's site. Nicole was the lucky winner. Although at the time of the contest she wasn't engaged, she knew it was coming and she waited to cash in her prize for her engagement shoot!
